of the major tasks that Chris undertakes include; supervising
and motivating staff, general office duties, Occupational
Health and Safety, pruning management, irrigation design
and management, and soil management.

As
Orchard Manager, Chris's primary role is to oversee
the management of the orchard and to supervise
staff.
Future?
In the future, Chris hopes to continue working
on his family orchard and become more involved
with the family business.

BACKGROUND:
Grew up where?
Chris grew up on his family orchard in Ardmona, and
has been working there most of his life. This has been
a major influence on his selected career path.
Course(s)
studied:
Tertiary /post secondary:
Chris
has completed a Bachelor of Business (Manufacturing
Management) at Monash University.
Secondary:
Chris
believes subjects such as Maths provided a base for
Business Management.
Chris's
responsiblilities include
supervising and motivating staff

Work
experience:
Chris has worked on his family farm for most of
his life. However, while at university he had
worked at a Meter (electrical) Manufacturing Company.
OPPORTUNITIES:
Further study:
In the future Chris hopes to complete a short
Financial Management course to enhance his business
skills.

Learning
on job, new skills, etc.
Chris believes that he is always learning on the job
and developing new skills in the areas of orchard management,
water management, supervising skills and business management.
ADVICE TO STUDENTS NOW:
students up to Year 10
Chris believes that students should try to keep their
options open and work hard on core subjects such as
Maths, Science and English. He also suggests that gaining
practical experience is also very important.
VCE students
Chris
suggests that students should be aware of the courses
available beyond VCE and they should choose VCE subjects
wisely, as many Tertiary courses require prerequisites.
Tertiary
students
Chris
believes that students should set goals and work hard
at these. He also suggests that students should obtain
as much work experience as possible and begin major
study in areas of interest.
OTHER:
Comments, thoughts, suggestions.
The
fruit industry is always developing new and improved
methods for better management on land capability, yield
and product. Chris believes that learning in the industry
is an on-going experience and there is always room for
improvement.

Chris'
peers have mostly moved into areas of Business Management.
